Discover the Heart of Downtown Palm Springs: Where Style Meets the Desert

In this post, we talked about Downtown Palm Springs, California, and all the fun things to do there.  The enormous monuments of Marilyn Monroe, Bumblebee, and a memorial to Native Americans are some of the more noteworthy objects.

Downtown Palm Springs

There is also a tiny statue of I Love Lucy.  There is also a Walk of Fame with different stars, and there are numerous places to shop, from little local stores to major chain stores.

Unique art galleries and stores

The feature talks about some of the one-of-a-kind establishments in downtown Palm Springs, like a candy store with weird soda flavors, a store that sells miniature animal statues, and a store that offers innovative things largely from Turkey.

It exhibits off the area’s art galleries and ancient structures, as well as new attractions like a spa and places to go out at night.

Palm Canyon Drive, the main street in the Uptown district, is where the annual Christmas parade and a weekly Thursday night street fair with a lot of food options take place.

 The Kimpton Rowan Hotel

The speaker talks about small businesses and a multitude of hotels near Palm Canyon Drive, starting with the Kimpton Rowan.  There is a big pool on the roof of this hotel with a bar and views of the sunset from all angles.

The accommodation is huge, tidy, and has a beautiful view of the mountains.  In the foyer, there is a cafe with an outside patio where visitors can drink complimentary beer and wine during a social hour.  The gym on the second floor gives great views of the outside.

After that, the Renaissance Hotel is a nice option.  It’s two blocks from Palm Canyon Drive and has a spacious lobby with a lot of places to sit, like a resort.

What the Renaissance Hotel has to offer

The movie depicts a hotel in Palm Springs that has one of the biggest pools in the area, a giant hot tub, and a big outside bar.

People can relax in a number of cabanas or around fire pits that are open after dark.  The highlighted room is on the top level and offers a balcony with great views, especially at night.  The speaker indicates that there will be additional hotel recommendations.

 Cafes and coffee shops

This section talks about several famous coffee shops and cafés.  At the end of Henry Frank Arcade, there is a coffee shop named Gray that is famed for its upside-down vanilla cappuccinos and live music on some nights.  Mon Amour is a French cafe close by.

There is a wonderful patio outdoors and photographs of France on the walls within.  The narrator really likes the egg and bacon croissant and points out the French pastries.

People are also talking about another well-known coffee shop that is within a few blocks from Palm Canyon Drive.  It includes outside dining with views of the mountains, and both residents and visitors like it.

Best Western and Marriott are two examples of hotels.

The part talks about two lesser hotels: the Courtyard by Marriott and the Best Western Las Brisas.  People prefer Best Western Las Brisas because the site is gorgeous and covered in vines, it’s close to Palm Canyon Drive, the rooms are huge and clean, and there’s a pool with a hot tub.

The Courtyard by Marriott, which is a mile to the east, also has clean rooms with modest patios that lead to a pool and hot tub.  It is farther away from Palm Canyon Drive, but it is recommended since it is clean, the staff is friendly, the pool area is nice, and it is a fantastic deal.

 New eateries and dining options

The 262 Bar and Grill is a unique spot to eat because it has a beautiful view from its second-floor outside patio.  The barbecue wings and the Fat Jesse burger, which has jalapenos and spices cooked straight into the beef patty, are both quite good.

Below the 262 Bar is Sol Agave, a Mexican restaurant that serves breakfast.  The breakfast burrito and huevos rancheros with fried tortillas are two of the most popular things to eat for breakfast.  They are both good, but they are quite hot.

There are a lot of places to sit inside and outside at LG Steakhouse, which is across the street.  The salmon dish and the prime rib with red wine and asparagus are both very popular.  The Sky High Tower of onion rings appetizer is also really wonderful.

The Air Bar is a terrific spot to eat on an aircraft, by the way.

Air Bar

The PS Air Bar has a special airplane-themed supper called The In-Flight Experience every Saturday night at five.  Guests get refreshments and cheese and fruit boards with their boarding permits.  After then, the main courses are served on trays like those used on airplanes.

The bar is open throughout normal business hours and serves gourmet flatbread pizzas.  The Superman-themed window and other decorations on the airplane windows at the venue make it feel more special.  The deli next door also makes fantastic sandwiches.

Eating at La Plaza and Mercado Plaza

The speaker talks about their favorite locations to dine in two plazas.  Mercado Plaza is on the second story, and Wilma and Freda have beautiful views and private balconies there.

The churro waffle with berries, the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs, and the breakfast potatoes are all highly recommended breakfast items.  The speaker also enjoyed eating dinner by the fire pit.

They loved the roasted chicken and the crispy mustard bacon sandwich.  La Plaza is across the street from The Farm Restaurant, which debuted in 1936. The food there tastes like it originated from the French countryside.  For lunch, people like to have a chicken sandwich, bacon and waffles, or French toast with fruit.

Another French option is the French Miso Cafe.  It features nice outside dining and is known for its eggs Benedict with prosciutto for brunch.  The speaker also says that the historic Las Casuelas restaurant is a great place to eat.

Las Casuelas has been around for a long time.

The restaurant is just a block away and offers a bar and live music.  There are a number of places to eat, both indoors and outside.

The family has owned it for more than sixty years, and the original store is still open near downtown.  In 1979, a bigger store opened in a historic structure from the 1920s.  The carne asada burrito is a hit with people.

Sherman’s Deli and Johnny Bongos

The episode talks about few restaurants close to Palm Canyon Drive.  People appreciate Sherman’s Deli for its award-winning sandwiches, such the hot pastrami, and its superb bakery assortment, which includes a big piece of German chocolate cake.

Johnny Bongos is a laid-back American restaurant nearby that is famous for its burgers. It also has a patio on the second floor with wonderful views.

The taproom at La Quinta Brewing Company is below Johnny Bongos.  People recognize it for its relaxed vibe and beer flights.  Brandini Toffee is a terrific treat since it features chocolate-covered ice cream bars with toffee crumbs and ice cream scoops on top of Almond Roca.

 Soda shops and dessert shops

The section speaks about some famous places to get dessert.  Lolly & Pops is a sweets store that sells gelato, chocolates, and beverages with weird flavors including bacon and Martian dung.  There is a Hawaiian-themed ice cream shop called Leopard’s Ice Cream nearby.

For three years in a row, the Desert Sun rated it the greatest ice cream shop, and Palm Springs Life Magazine reported about it.  Great Shakes was ranked one of the best 18 ice cream stores in the US by Yahoo Food.  There are a number of different shakes at the store, like one with chocolate and peanut butter.

Monster Shakes, which is about a mile from downtown, has a bunch of fancy shakes. One of them is the Cookie Monster, which includes a chocolate chip cookie on top.

At night, Reforma and Antigua clubs are fantastic locations to go.

The Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and chocolate-covered waffles on top of the chocolate and peanut butter crunch are what the section indicates.

It says that the finest spot to go out at night is downtown, where the Reforma nightclub has two bars, a restaurant, and a vast dance floor where DJs play on various evenings.  Another fun spot to go is the Antigua nightclub.

It’s been around for a few years and a lot of people in Palm Springs like it.  It also has food.  The cover charges at both clubs are minimal, yet they are worth it.

The Tonka Tiki Bar is particularly known for its unique beverages and its second-floor patio, which is outside and close to the Mercado, where you can grab meals to go.

 Breweries, cigar and wine stores

The Plaza has a store named the Famed Cigar and Wine, which is a fantastic spot to unwind.  It features a lot of various wines, a place to smoke cigars, and cold beer.

People also mention the Las Palmas Brewery, which is the sole brewery in Palm Springs and is run by a family.  There is a big patio outside, food trucks that come by every now and again, and comfy seating inside.

Art in museums and on the street

This portion talks about a quiet region behind Palm Canyon Drive, close to the Kimpton Resort.  People recognize it for its public art, such the Forever Marilyn statue, which looks great at night.

There are other signs with information at the Palm Springs Babies exhibit, the Art Museum (which has a distinctive vertical card above a pool), and other public art pieces like the Isabelle statue and the Palm Springs love sign, which can be found near important junctions and lounging places.  A fun installation with five huge colored popsicles nearby is a popular location to go.

The part talks about the Modernism Museum on Palm Canyon Drive, which is a great place to go for people who enjoy art and architecture.

People frequently spend 30 to 45 minutes wandering around the ingeniously created rooms, one of which has a yellow fireplace and a chair that looks like a hand.

There is also a unique gift shop at the museum’s entrance that individuals who prefer modern design will like.

Old buildings in Palm Springs

The part talks about the McCallum Adobe, which was built in 1884 and is now a museum for the Palm Springs Historical Society, and the Cornelia White House, which was erected in 1893.

There is a big fountain in the tiny park called the Village Green Center, which is where both buildings are.  The area’s natural hot springs were frequented by Native Americans, which is how the city got its name.

There is a pool with a waterfall, private cabanas, and daybeds inside the new Sehi Spa.

New cultural and spa plaza

The film talks about a spa section with a mineral pool next to the main pool, private mineral baths, and cafes that are both inside and outside.

There are a variety of therapy facilities, like saunas, steam rooms, massage rooms, and grounding rooms.  There is also a spacious gym with machines for chiropractic therapy and floating baths full of Epsom salt.  There is a new cultural plaza being developed nearby called the Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza. It will contain displays about the history of Palm Springs.

The park in downtown near the Maryland Monroe statue is especially notable since it used to be the site of the Desert Inn, which Nelly Kaufman and her husband erected in 1909 as a tuberculosis sanitarium.

The past of the park in the middle of the city and the Desert Inn

After the vaccine was developed, Nelly turned the sanitarium into a resort hotel. People from all over the world came to stay there, and it became a popular place for people to gather.

The hotel was torn down in 1967, but a little plaque still honors it. The park currently has palm palms, a huge waterfall, and green spots where people can sit.

There are a lot of lights in the park at night.  The next historical landmark we talk about is the ruins of the Oasis Hotel.

The past of the Plaza Theater and the Oasis Hotel

The Oasis Tower, which sits behind a jewelry store on Palm Canyon Drive, is a famous historical site that was completed in 1923.

The first hotel was in the south, where the Village Green Center is now, where the dining hall used to be.  There is a plaque there.  There is a fudge shop nearby that sells several kinds of fudge and chocolate delicacies, as well as a small ice cream department.

The Plaza Theater, which opened in 1936 and used to draw Hollywood stars, is now shuttered, but the city wants to repair it up.  The Wellwood Murray Library located at the end of the street.  The name comes from the individual who built the first hotel in the region in 1886.

The closure of the Wellwood Murray Library

George Wellwood’s son presented the land to the library, which became the main library from 1941 to 1975.   It presently serves as a visitor center and a branch of the Palm Springs public library.

That’s all for the Downtown Palm Springs.  The last film will be on historic hotels, the tennis club area, hiking paths, and renowned eateries in South Palm Springs.
